Shivanthi returned to Sri Lanka in 2011 with the intention of rediscovering her roots and contributing to the development of her country of birth. She is the founder and director of ARETÉ Academy of Personal Development which offers teens and young adults programmes, coaching and internships to help them to develop leadership and life skills. Her international exposure, combined with the diversity of education and experience in the corporate sector, equipped her to collaborate with parents and educators in the venture of preparing young people to be the future leaders of Sri Lanka.
Shivanthi’s upbringing in Canada from the age of ten exposed her to the richness of multiculturalism. She has a Chemical Engineering Degree from the University of Waterloo and a Masters in Business Administration from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) in Montreal.
Throughout her corporate career, Shivanthi exposed herself to diverse functions including engineering projects, marketing, marketing research, finance and corporate planning roles at multinational companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb, MAC Cosmetics and Fruits & Passion.
Further studies in the Arts took her to Italy for three years. Contact with the European approach, history, philosophy, art and architecture was a great time to grow personally and also laid the groundwork for founding ARETÉ Academy.
After studying and travelling around the world, Shivanthi now speaks five languages; of which French, Spanish and English she speaks fluently. In her spare time, she directs an English tutoring programme for girls at an orphanage in Colombo.
Shivanthi’s interests and experience have crystallized her passion to learn and to share. In her words: “The future of Sri Lanka is only as promising as the opportunities that we give our young people today. I am thankful for the people whom I met during the course of my life who showed me how to open my horizons and strive for excellence. It is exciting to pass this on to other young people and contribute to the development of Sri Lanka through ARETÉ Academy of Personal Development.”
