The English Writing Course, conducted by a Canadian English language professional, follows the reputable methodology developed by the Institute for Excellence in Writing (www.iew.com) in the US. We follow their Structure & Style program which has proven successful in international school systems and in homeschooling. Some adaptations are made to meet the needs of English Language Learners in Sri Lanka; specifically, we delve deeply into sentence structure, grammar and punctuation. Over the course of 12 weeks, students are taught techniques to understand and summarize information from a text. They also learn to incorporate stylistic enhancements into their writing. Students finish the course with noticeably improved writing and more confidence in their ability to communicate in the English language. The skills they learn in the program provide the essentials for student success: in the short-term, they perform better on school exams and assignments, and in the long term, they become excellent communicators who are able to think critically and articulate their ideas clearly.
